Graduate Programmes

a.         Master of Science in Telecommunications Engineering

The principal aim of the programme is to enable currently practicing engineers and scientists  to upgrade their professional qualifications in response to rapid changes in telecommunications and associated computer technology.  It is also intended to permit recent graduates, usually from other universities, to enhance their first qualification with studies in telecommunications.

The course provides a mix of subjects permitting students to develop an understanding of the interaction of the various layers of modern telecommunication systems.  All subjects in the course use case studies and exercises to build understanding of the concepts and theoretical principles.  The project will draw upon a number of subjects to gain understanding of telecommunication systems as a whole.  In particular, they will develop an understanding of specification, selection, performance, commissioning and operation of telecommunication systems.

b.         Masters in Telecommunications Management Programme

This programme   is designed to provide the technical knowledge and management skills needed to plan, acquire, operate, and evaluate telecommunications systems.

The programme emphasizes critical management concepts such as the structure and environment of the telecommunications industry, strategic planning, financial management, and organizational assessment.

In addition, the programme offers instruction specific to telecommunications in the following areas: data-communications systems, computer networks, common-carrier networks, satellite systems, electronic mass media, management support systems, and the complex process of hardware and software acquisition from the standpoint of both the purchaser and vendor, and the application of these topics to practical issues of telecommunications management.

All students are required to have access to a computer and a modem capable of supporting modern software to complete their post graduate programme.

The  goal of the programme is to provide students with advanced technical knowledge of applied telecommunications integrated with a solid grounding in business management techniques.

The programme offers exciting opportunities for students from Engineering, Science Mathematics and IT backgrounds.  It aims to meet the academic, professional, and career needs of graduates who wish to simultaneously increase the depth and scope of their technological knowledge and acquire the essentials of management theory and practice.

The programme will build on student’s capabilities, allowing them to offer the most up-to-date skills and knowledge to take up an industrial career or further study and research in telecom engineering or a management subject.

The programme provides students with the skills to design networks, establish or influence policy, make decisions, technology adoption and standards, create cost models for new technology implementations, calculate return on investment, and grasp the organizational and user implications of networking systems.
