ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Ghana Telecom University College is a major academic learning development centre attracting users to it its rich and extensive print and electronic resources carefully gathered throughout its history.
Located on the First floor of the main administration block, on top of the Dr Eva von Hirsch Auditorium on the University’s main campus, the library primarily supports the University’s students, faculty, and staff and academic work. Facilities and resources in the library are primarily reserved for GTUC patrons, but community patrons are also allowed to access them.
To provide excellent information resources and deliver quality services and facilities to meet the research, teaching and learning needs of the University College.
To have a collection tailored to our students and faculty needs, exemplary service to all our patrons, and an excellence in library service which contributes to the intellectual activities of the university.

Access to Information:
- That the GTUC community will have reliable and equitable electronic access to information resources through the already existing virtual electronic library.
- Enhancement and expansion of the library’s technology capabilities to meet users’ informational needs.

- Research libraries, nationally and internationally in the development of an inter-institutional distribution of digital library resources.
- To continue to develop a premier digital library.
- To Improve breadth, depth and accessibility of information resources required to support instruction and research.
- To assess the effectiveness and impact of library collections and services in meeting user needs and take steps to ensure continued success and improvement.
- To serve all members of the university community and the general public.
- To acquire and make available to all our patrons/users such books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other services as will address their needs to a) become well informed, b) locate answers to important questions, c) cultivate the imagination and creative expression, d) develop skills for career and vocational advancement, and e) enjoy leisure by means of reading and f) other media services.
- To solicit resources to provide the most frequently requested material locally, internationally and upon demand.
- To maintain a programme of service which locates information, guides reading, organizes and interprets material for people of various backgrounds, and stimulates thinking and intellectual development in individuals of any age.
- To strive consistently to discover new methods and improvements for better service for the library's patrons.
The strategic priorities of the GTUC library are:
- Collection Development Management: to develop, manage and preserve collections of a caliber which match the instruction and research programmes at the university.
- Academic Service: to provide professional support to the researchers as they move from initial investigation of a new area of interest through the process of identifying evermore specific items and research tools.
- Instructional Services: to assist the campus in furthering student and faculty use of the state -of -the -art computer and information retrieval systems, as well as offering direct instruction to improve information retrieval skills when using both print and electronic resources in the library.
- Access Service: to make library-owned material readily available to our constituents.
We are also committed to the following:
- Select, acquire, continue to manage and preserve materials in all formats that support the university’s programs and mission.
- Streamline the selection process, making more effective use of online selection tools while maintaining quality material review.
- Evaluate and expand collections: Engage in aggressive evaluation of the collections.
- Revise collection development policy from time to time.
- Increase purchase of books, both electronically and manually and explore cooperative collection development.
- Establish a systematic approach to coordinated collection management, which provides for regular evaluation of usefulness, currency and cultural value.
- Monitor any information that might allow expansion of our resources to meet the desires of our clients.
- Encourage, identify, and develop the most effective library procedures, and implement them system-wide with flexibility to accommodate unusual circumstances.
- Set up an automation system to speed up the work, increase staff effectiveness and increase our ability to serve our patrons better.
- Create a humane learning organization that fosters an environment conducive to teaching, research, study and work.
- Identify needed improvements in existing facilities and work on them to facilitate work in the library.
- Renew our subscription to online full-text databases both in books and journals and also explore avenues of subscribing to more electronic resources.
- Upgrade technology: Ensure that computers in the e-library are both powerful and plentiful to meet user demands.

During the semester, the Library opens as follows:
- Mondays – Friday 8:00am – 10:00pm
- Saturdays 9:00am – 9:00pm
During vacations, the Library opens as follows:
- Mondays – Friday 8:00am – 8:00pm
- Saturdays 9:00am – 7:00pm
Note: The Library does not operate on Sundays and during Public Holidays
